It’d be better with a cat

An arm wrapped around

With a soft “good morning”

An hour before I need to wake

My time to slowly stir

And start to unfold blankets leading to my day

The shower goes on

My time to face the light starting to pour in to the rooms around me

Lunches

His and hers

Prepared for a long day

A shared smile across the room

As the weatherman tells us tales of storms to come

A wish for spring

For windows open

For weekends spent outside

A gently rushed breakfast

A 7 second hug*

And goodbye looks shared as he disappears down the stairs

20 more minutes

Before I make my way to my second home

Where my “children” await their handshakes

And are eager to fill their days with my voice

This life isn’t so bad

But it’d be better with a cat.

*(did you know 7 seconds is the “best” length of time for a hug?)

I did not know that 7 seconds is the ideal time for a hug – you learn something new every single day. “As the weatherman tells us tales of storms to come; A wish for spring” – I love, love, love this line. My students tell me that we are going to get hit with another winter storm. They are hoping for a snow day. Me, not so much. You are going to make a great “cat mom”!

I can’t remember where I heard the hug thing from- it very well could have just been some silly Netflix show, but I said it to my boyfriend once, and it’s stuck! As for the snow…we’ve only had 4 snow days here in Maine- which is actually crazy low for us. As much as I don’t like snow, I do love random days off, however, I’m totally tired of the cold and snow, I want warmth and grass and buds on trees! Soon enough!
Plus, spring is when my kitten will be old enough to come home- April 25! 🙂

Can you imagine a kitty in the classroom?? Doing kitty things?? Oh my goodness!! I’m writing a grant for a kitty!

Ok, maybe not, I’m sure someone is allergic to it! *insert eyeroll*

Dreams dashed, but it was fun! 🙂 Thank you for your slice today!
